The South by Southeast Music Feast is a local non-profit/charitable organization formed in 2003 by a group of Myrtle Beach, SC area music lovers and educators to preserve and promote American music not usually heard in traditional venues.
Our mission is to provide assistance and support to local music education programs, with our goal being to offset some costs associated with the musical education of young people in our area. In this time of budget cuts and strangulation of funding for the arts, our goal is to help young people in their pursuit of the joys of music.

| Summer's End Music Feast with Verlon Thompson - August 8th (posted 4/29 - Wednesday, April 29, 2009
Verlon Thompson will be bringing his best to us Saturday night, August 8th at the Depot. It's going to be a real treat, folks! There will be righteous pickin' on this night of true Americana at its finest. With thirty years as a professional songwriter and traveling troubadour as credentials, as a solo performer, and as the trusted sidekick of Texas Americana songwriting icon Guy Clark, Verlon has viewed the world from stages everywhere from Barcelona to Binger (his hometown in Oklahoma).
Equally important in his songwriting and live performances, Verlon's guitar work cannot go unnoticed. His guitar can be heard on recordings by Restless Heart, Pam Tillis, and many more, including, and especially Guy Clark. Verlon co-produced Guy Clark's Grammy nominated album "Cold Dog Soup" as well as "The Dark", "Workbench Songs" and "Somedays the Song Writes You."
Verlon has had songs recorded by..
Balladeers: Kenny Rogers, Anne Murray, Barbara Mandrell.
Bluegrassers: Del McCoury Band, Sam Bush.
Country Girls: Pam Tillis, Trisha Yearwood, Suzy Bogguss.
Country Boys: Randy Travis, Joe Diffie,Tracy Byrd, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
Folk Troubadours: Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker, Darrell Scott.
"It's high time everyone heard more of that humble troubadour Verlon Thompson. He is an outstanding guitar picker and songwriter whose only career shortcoming is that he performs in Guy Clark's enormous shadow." ~ The Lonely Goat Magazine
Opening for Verlon will be some excellent music and entertainment by one of SxSE's favorites, George Marshall. This is shaping up to be yet another top-notch evening for your listening pleasure. Better clear your calendar for this one and reserve your tickets early! read more ... |

On Saturday night, September 12th, we're in for a treat when The Believers take the stage at the historic Myrtle Beach Train Depot.
THE BELIEVERS are a band that effortlessly straddles indie rock and alt-Country. Now on the brink of releasing their third album, Lucky You, The Believers continue to garner praise from all corners of the music world, described as “what Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Three might have sounded like if they’d jammed with the White Stripes” [David Burke, Rock ‘n Reel Magazine] for their tunes that carry the suggestion of X, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris and Heart at the same time.
At the helm of The Believers are guitarists/vocalists Craig Aspen and Cyd Frazzini. Within three weeks of first meeting, Aspen and Frazzini were in the studio with a handful of each other’s songs to record their debut album "Row". From there, the Believers gained a backing band, as well as some surprise fans, including Ray Kennedy, the legendary songwriter and producer, known for his work with Steve Earle and Lucinda Williams, who had been a major influence on the duo and has gone on to master the band’s last two albums. read more ... |
